Many students in today’s world seek scholarships that will not only pay for their tuition plus room and board but also a scholarship that will allow them to develop and engage in their personal interests. Some of the more recognized talents are in the art world. The YoungArts’ National Arts Competition awards a scholarship up to $10,000 to the winning high schooler in a variety of artistic disciplines. Another scholarship for art inclined students is the Nathan and Anna Boggan Legacy Scholarshipwhich awards $5,000 for the prospective architect applying to Mississippi State University.

For the fervent entrepreneur, the Microsoft Imagine Cup Global Competition is a perfect fit; a prospective applicant will need to create or ponder an innovative idea using Microsoft technology. The winner of this contest will win $100,000 directed to either their prospective business or their college degree.

Video gamers who wish to take their drive to the next level may be interested in the UCI Esports Scholarship. Potential winners of this scholarship will play games like Overwatch or League of Legends and compete for their school which in this case would be University of California-Irvine.

Aspiring designers who wish to create stylish bags and purses may be interested in the Design-A-Bag Competition, which not only gives up to $1,000 to the winner, but also access to a four week design course at the prestigious Arsutoria School. Young writers may be interested in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, which gives up to $10,000 in prize money for the winners.

Scholarships available for the dedicated videographer include the Full Sail Scholarship. Alan Pang, a Sterling Academy graduate, attained this very scholarship from Full Sail University. He was awarded $10,000 from their admissions office and is now a full-time film major at Full Sail University.

It is very important that students review the financial aid packages they may receive from their prospective colleges. It can make a world of difference in how much debt and stress a student may receive in the future.

Scholarships allow students to not only pay for their college fees, but also allow them to pursue and polish their own aspirations and dreams. Furthermore, it is important for students to be aware of the available aid and grants that will help them have a smooth transition into the post-secondary world.
